Privacy Policy
Summary
Squawkly is a flight-study app. We built it to work without an account. We do not collect, sell or share your personal information, we show no ads, and we do not track you across apps or websites. Your study progress stays on your device.
Who we are
Squawkly is published by Clearstone Skills Institute ("we", "us"). Questions about this policy: support@clearstoneinstitute.com.
Information stored on your device
To make the app work, Squawkly saves the following only on your device (in the app's local storage):
- Your lesson progress, practice-exam answers and scores, mock-oral self-ratings, streaks and settings.
- The name you enter for your profile and the home airport you choose (both optional).
- Practice radio recordings, if you use radio practice.
We cannot see this information. It is removed when you delete the app. If you export a progress backup or share a video, that happens only when you choose to, using the iOS share sheet, and goes only where you send it.
Microphone and speech recognition
Radio practice asks for microphone and speech-recognition permission. Your recording and its transcript are processed on your device using Apple's on-device speech recognition. Recordings are not uploaded to us or anyone else. You can turn off access at any time in iOS Settings.
Weather information
When you look up weather, Squawkly requests the current report for the airport you chose from the U.S. government's Aviation Weather Center (aviationweather.gov, part of NOAA's National Weather Service). That request contains the airport identifier and the standard technical information any internet request includes, such as your IP address. We do not receive or store it. The National Weather Service's own privacy policy applies to that service.
Lesson updates
To deliver corrections and new lessons between app versions, Squawkly occasionally downloads a content update file from our website (squawkly.clearstoneinstitute.com). The request contains no account or personal information. Like any website, our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and time) for security and reliability; we do not use them to identify you.
Problem reports and support email
If you tap “Report a problem” or email us, your email app sends us your message, your email address and the question or lesson details included in the report. We use them only to answer you and fix the content, and delete them when no longer needed.
Purchases and subscriptions
Subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment details. Apple tells the app on your device whether your subscription is active so the app can unlock Squawkly Pro. Apple's privacy policy applies to purchases.
Analytics, advertising and tracking
Squawkly contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking software, and we do not use your data to build profiles.
Children
Squawkly is a study tool for student and certificated pilots. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app does not collect personal information, none is received from any user.
Your choices
You can view, change or reset your progress in the app, change permissions in iOS Settings, and delete everything by deleting the app. Because we hold no personal information about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our side; if you have a question, contact us.
Changes to this policy
If we add features that change how information is handled (for example, optional cloud sync or a feedback form), we will update this policy and the effective date before releasing them, and explain the change in the app.
